NM GOP Airing Radio Ads In Rural New Mexico: “Obama’s Hot Air Energy Solutions”
Albuquerque, NM – The Republican Party of New Mexico began airing radio advertisements this week in six New Mexico communities, alerting voters to recent remarks made by Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama, regarding his belief that inflating car tires and getting regular tune-ups is a more sound and successful energy policy than increasing our domestic oil supply. The ad will be running throughout the week on radio stations in Roswell, Carlsbad, Hobbs, Clovis, Portales, and Farmington; it can be heard on the NM GOP website at www.gopnm.org, and the text is provided below.
Shira Rawlinson, NM GOP Communications Director, remarked, “Barack Obama’s recent comments show yet another example of his inability to connect with New Mexicans – especially those living in small towns and rural areas. First, he claimed that small-town voters cling to things like religion and guns out of bitterness, and now he’s minimizing the significant pain that New Mexicans feel due to high gas prices and our current energy crisis. We need a comprehensive energy policy in America that embraces a variety of forms of energy exploration, including off-shore drilling and nuclear energy. If we seriously confront our energy crisis, we can reduce gas prices and decrease our dependence on foreign oil. Sadly, Barack Obama isn’t offering comprehensive, serious solutions to the serious problems we’re facing everyday.”
BAMA'S HOT AIR ENERGY SOLUTIONS (Runtime 1 min)High gas prices. Pain at the pump. An energy economy in turmoil. What’s Barack Obama’s energy solution? Nothing but a bunch of hot air…really.Barack Obama wants you to inflate your car tires. Yes, that’s right. Inflate your tires. That’s Barack Obama’s solution to the high gas prices we pay in New Mexico every day. Last week, Obama actually remarked, “We could save all the oil they’re talking about getting off drilling if everybody was just inflating their tires and getting regular tune-ups.”This is the same Barack Obama who told a crowd of wealthy San Francisco liberals that people who live in small towns cling to their religion and guns because they’re bitter. Now he opposes producing more oil and gas here at home and opposes lowering your gas tax this summer. We understand the real problems we face. Don’t you wish Barack Obama understood us? Barack Obama: a really inexperienced politician whose hot-air solutions are out of touch with New Mexico. New Mexico State Senator Bill Sharer Releases Web AD: “Take a Number”
Albuquerque, NM – State Senator Bill Sharer (R-Farmington) released a new web ad entitled “Take a Number”. The ad highlights the horrible truth of what a government controlled health care system would mean for the people of New Mexico - taking numbers, standing in long lines, and receiving sub-standard health care.
“This ad shows the true definition of a government controlled health care system; a system that consists of long waits for medical procedures, deteriorating hospitals and the loss of important medical research.”, remarked State Senator Bill Sharer. “New Mexicans deserve better than that and I am ready to fight for responsible health care that will benefit all.”

KRQE: ACORN Hiring Criminals to Register Voters in NM

Albuquerque, NM – Last night KRQE Channel 13 aired a story from reporter Michael Herzenberg about ACORN’s hiring of criminals to conduct voter registration in New Mexico.
Here is some more information on ACORN:
In 2004, an ACORN employee, Christina Gonzales, registered a 13 year old and 15 year old boy to vote in Albuquerque, and the leader of ACORN in New Mexico, Matthew Henderson pleaded fifth, on his lawyer’s advice, when asked about the group’s handling of voter registration forms in a court case prior to Election Day. (Shea Andersen, “More Glare On Voter Sign-Ups,” Albuquerque Tribune, 8/25/04; Andy Lenderman, “Fight Over Voter ID Heats Up,” Albuquerque Journal, 9/19/04)
In addition, completed and fraudulent forms were found in an Albuquerque home during a police drug bust at the home of a foreign national who worked for ACORN. (“Albuquerque Police Find Voter Registration Forms At Albuquerque Apartment,” The Associated Press, 10/16/04)
And, Ingrid Bober, an Albuquerque Republican, registered to vote with an ACORN employee that year, who joked about her party affiliation when she handed him her completed form; lo and behold, when Bober tried to vote early prior to Election Day, her name was not found on the voter list and no form had been turned in for her. (Dan McKay and Andy Lenderman, “County’s Early-Polling Places ‘Slammed’ With Voters, Calls,” Albuquerque Journal, 10/19/04)
Examples such as these are prevalent not only in New Mexico, but throughout the nation. ACORN is also supposed to be a non-partisan, tax-exempt organization, although the House Committee on Economic and Educational Opportunities cited evidence of misappropriation of funds by ACORN Housing Corp. in 1997, for engaging in partisan political activity. In 2006, a former ACORN worker in Missouri said that he was fired because, in addition to registering voters, he would not door-knock for Democratic senatorial candidate Claire McCaskill and tell people to support her candidacy. (H.R. Rep. No. 104-875, at 68-69 (1997); ACORN and McCaskill, provided by http://www.pubdef.net (Oct. 4, 2006)
Just last year, felony criminal charges were filed against 7 employees and supervisors of ACORN in the state of Washington, of whom three pleaded guilty to fraudulently filling out 1,800 voter registration forms in 2006; this is in addition to a settlement in the state that says ACORN may be held criminally responsible if additional voter registration fraud occurs. (“Three plead guilty in fake voter scheme”, The Seattle Times, 10/30/07; (Keith Ervin, “Felony charges filed against 7 in state's biggest case of voter-registration fraud,”, The Seattle Times, 07/26/07)
Albuquerque, NM – House Democrats plan to take a summer break without considering Republican energy bills aimed at increasing our domestic energy supply. Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich refuse to embrace increased domestic drilling, which would begin to finally put our energy economy on American terms and lower the price of gas at the pump. But, Barack Obama tops it all for his comments at a campaign stop in Missouri yesterday, where he implored people to inflate their car tires as a surefire way to solve our energy crisis and avoid increasing our domestic energy production.
“We know he’s a good orator, but New Mexicans are sure to recognize this for what it is – a bunch of hot air,” remarked NM GOP Spokesman Scott Darnell. “Rather than offer the American people a set of pragmatic solutions to their high gas prices, which would include more domestic energy production, Barack Obama would prefer to have us inflate our car tires. People expect more leadership from a presidential candidate than that.”
At the same event, Obama also challenged Sen. McCain to a “duel” on taxes, saying “I’m ready to duel John McCain on taxes right here, quick draw.” Again, Barack Obama’s flashy rhetoric is incredibly empty. Sen. McCain proposed holding 10 joint town hall meetings with Obama just a few months ago, and Obama’s campaign ran away from the offer as fast as they could.
Darnell concluded, “Barack Obama and the Democratic Party refuse to put forth an aggressive set of solutions to the energy problems we’re facing today. Their rhetoric doesn’t help put food on the table or gas in the car, and it won’t get them elected in November.”
